Matt's Tip of the
Month

One common question that we receive when
selecting the right racquet is: "What grip size should I use?"
It's becoming common knowledge that the
professional game is changing and grip sizes are trending
smaller. Rafael Nadal is rumored to use a 4 1/4 grip size.
What are the benefits of using a smaller
grip? The smaller grip allows you to use your wrist more,
giving you more spin potential and some extra snap on the serve.
The negative is that it is harder to hold
on to the handle if it is too small, making the racquet less
stable on off center hits and volleys. Additionally, if
you try to grab on too hard to the small grip, you may add
strain to your forearm, leading to tennis elbow.
Ultimately, there is an ideal grip size
for you. The best rule of thumb is to grab a racquet and measure a finger's width of space in between your fingertips and
your palm.
